The Christmas holiday is upon us. I’ll be honest, I’m not much in the Christmas spirit this year. There are always plenty of things to be thankful for and I am indeed thankful. But there are bumps in life and this year those bumps knocked a couple of my close friends out of the game. I’m sort of ready for the year to wrap up and start crisp and clean in 2020. The last thing I want to do is hang Christmas lights.
It’s not that it’s too cold this year. In fact, it was almost 50 degrees Fahrenheit in Chicago today. I actually did put the lights up already, but I did so a few weeks back when it was much colder out. I also tell myself each year how much I don’t like to do it. Surely there must be a better way. Couldn’t I hire someone to do this?
Driving around town one day I came across this sign while sitting at a stop light. Expecting to see the standard “My Dad Buys Houses” sign printed to look like it was hand written, I see “We Hang Christmas Lights. com!” THERE REALLY IS A SANTA. Wait, is this a dream? Are the ghosts of Christmas going to take me around and show me what life would be like if I don’t hang lights? My relatives will all talk about me, some small children will not get the surgery they need because of me? Nah. This is legit!
Snap back to reality, I have 4 kids that will all be in college over the next 5 years. I won’t be paying anyone to put my Christmas lights up until I’m well into my late 90s. But the fact that someone is running this business and used a pretty clever domain name warms my frozen heart.
I checked out the site briefly and it appears to be a lead generation tool. Pop in your zip code and it will present you with a form to fill out for more information and asks if it is residential or business. I chose not to pursue an interview for this one (maybe next year) but I thought it was worth mentioning, at a minimum. I think the name chosen is pretty spot on for this business and one a remembered for several weeks without ever seeing the sign again. I think that speaks volumes for the value of a descriptive name. Also discredits the “all the good names are taken” argument.
While it looks like I will be wresting with half lit strands of lights and obsessing over conspiracy theories about the Christmas Light Manufacturing Industry’s plan to cause me to buy new light each year, there is hope for some of you. Outsource this tedious task to the professionals and let them take care of it.
Oh, and by the way, you’ll want to make sure you get a CLIPA certified installer. Yes, there is a Christmas Lights Installation Pros Association that provides certification. So be the first to run off and register ChristmasLightCertification.com and cash in on this gift from the North Pole.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!!
