I connected with Tatjana Begunova of Site.pro to ask a few questions about the domain selection and the business.

Mike:  How long has Site.pro been an active company?  What inspired the idea of creating on online website builder?

Tatjana: Initially, we were a web design company, we were in the market for about ten or fifteen years probably. Then one shared hosting company ordered a specific product — a website builder. Later we rebuilt it and started offering the product to several hosting providers, after a few years we started selling to end customers as well. The project scaled a lot in just a couple of years. 

Mike: You chose the name Site.pro, more specifically the .pro TLD.  What drove your decision to embrace .pro and not search or acquire a .com?  

Tatjana: As our company developed, our mission changed. We wanted to create a professional product that hosting companies feel as if it is their own product. Professional product drove our decision to embrace .pro.  

Mike:  Where do “do it yourself” website builders fit into the business of developing domain names and websites.  How close are we to seeing this technology replace traditional web developers and design firms?  

Tatjana: Now our mission is to increase and simplify how every person changes the planet. Many companies move toward website builder solutions due to smaller expenses and easy usage.

Mike:  I imagine you have seen some of your customers develop into successful businesses.  Can you provide some examples of these that are leveraging the site.pro platform?  What do you think is the main challenge your products solve for them?

Tatjana:  One type of our clients are hosting companies. They usually purchase a website builder from us and then offer it to their customers. We help them get more customers and keep the current customers satisfied. Since we provide website import, shared hosting company customers can easily move their websites from website builders. So shared hosting companies get bigger profits because they grow much faster with website import.

And for our end customers, their main challenge is how to make their websites themselves. It is still difficult to make a website for non-tech savvy people. We allow a simple user to create their own website with no issues.

Mike:  What advice do you have for small businesses or entrepreneurs that are creating a website for their business?  Anything to watch out for? Anything to be sure to include? Any tips in general? 

Better to have 1 landing page website, than tens of pages with useless information where users can’t find what they need.
