I’ve come across several more generic names that I think are being put to great use. Whether they are pointing to another domain or housing a company’s main website, these are some nice uses of domains. As always, some are better than others, but always nice to see these prime pieces of real estate in use as opposed to parked.
- LaborDay.com goes to GreetingCards.com
- Bleach.com forwards to Clorox.com
- GlassCleaner.com is the Sparkle glass cleaner website
- Vaccuums.com (mis spelling) goes to builtinvacuum.com (MD vacuum manufacturer)
- StringInstruments.com is the home of Steilberg String Instruments
- DrumStick.com is the site for Nestle’s Drumstick Ice Cream
- GasGrills.com loads BBQParts.com
- Ducks.com forwards to BassProShops.com
- StainRemover.com is the site for Act stain remover
- Flour.com is the home of Stafford County Flour Mill Company
Let me know if you’ve seen any good ones. I’ll be sure to list them in an upcoming post.

Along the same lines, Olive Garden is using NeverEndingPastaBowl.com in their PPC. This is a first in the restaurant industry with this 4 billion dollar company embracing a domain as a marketing vehicle.
Good list again. I would be interested to hear your opinion about generic domain names in other TLDs than .COM (insofar developed, of course, and not merely redirects). I have some generic names in so-called pseudo-global TLDs, and I have always been wondering if I should attempt once to really invest on one, hoping for the generic name to overcome the weakness of the lesser TLD. But I wonder if you have in mind some positive experiences of that kind?
@Bfits – Great example with Olive Garden. I also like your Naperville site and I’d be interested to hear how you’re doing with it.
@Jean-Francois Mayer – It depends on the TLD and the domain. Generics are the best all around IMO. The TLD is important depending if you are looking for type-ins or SEO.
Thank you for your comment. I share your feeling indeed. Obviously, for type-ins, the TLD is important. Regarding SEO… well, I am wondering…
It supports a business in that industry. Email me if you would like to connect. I am Naperville often.
