It’s common knowledge that hyphenated names are not nearly as desirable as their non-hyphenated equals. I’ve owned a hyphenated domain name or two in my time and had some success, but nothing worth blogging about. I would take a solid keyword domain any day over anything with a hyphen. That said, there are companies that have built their brands on their hyphenated domain names. Sometimes it’s a hyphenated keyword, other times it’s an actual brand name and they just don’t want to make the sweeping change.
Regardless, it tells me something when I see a keyword domain name pointing to another name. It tell’s me “These guys get the importance and the value of a keyword domain name.” I might not agree with the strategy of keeping their website hosted on a hyphenated name, but at least they are leveraging a great name to their benefit.
Which name would you host your site on if it was your business?
